1. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
The TOEFL consists of 4 sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. The TOEFL iBT is a long, rigorous test (3 hours) designed to assess students’ readiness to attend an English-speaking university. Many students spend 3 to 6 months preparing for the TOEFL before taking the test. The TOEFL Essentials test was designed to be a simple, inexpensive English test with a less academic focus.

TOEFL score
The TOEFL score on the iBT version of the test is on a scale of 0 to 120. Essential test results are presented in half-bands from 1 to 12. The official score report includes the highest scores in each section of the test during the last 2 years for both tests. A student can take the TOEFL as often as they wish, but no more than once every 3 days.

The PTE Academic test measures all four English language skills of the candidate such as Listening, Speaking, Writing & Reading and it lasts for two hours.

Pearson, one of the world’s leading education companies, is responsible for developing the PTE Academic test used to assess a candidate’s ability to listen, speak, read, and write in English. The test development team that develops the PTE Academic Test is based in several countries like the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia.

The PTE Academic test is conducted according to the guidelines and the Common European Framework of Reference of the Council of Europe (CEF or CEFR; Council of Europe, 2001), where the CEF or CEFR is the well-accepted performance standard in language tests. The PTE Academic test items are internationally accepted and ensure that the test measures the student’s ability to communicate in academic English internationally. For registration, visit PTE and sign up to open an account.

5. What is CAEL?
The Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) test is used to assess a student’s level of English proficiency before enrolling in a Canadian post-secondary institution. This is the CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language) test. This is one of the best methods for determining whether a student has the necessary English skills to succeed in their studies.

CAEL was developed in Canada by Canadians. It was originally developed in 1987 by Dr. Jana Fox, Canada’s leading language assessment and testing expert, and her colleagues at Carleton University.

CAEL exams are officially accepted by various governments, professional organizations, colleges, universities, and employers. CAEL is currently accepted by over 180 Canadian academic institutions as well as several international academic institutions.

The CAEL is now accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as evidence of English language proficiency from a testing center. For registration, visit CAEL and sign up to open an account.

6. What is CELPIP?
Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP). The Canadian company Paragon Testing Enterprises, a division of the University of British Columbia, developed the English language proficiency test known as CELPIP.

One-on-one training, which is training between an instructor and a student, is for students who want specialized training in specific areas that may include listening, speaking, reading, or writing skills. Classes are billed by the hour and time depends on instructor availability. Students are required to take a placement test to determine the correct level of English language proficiency.

Effective August 10, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has begun accepting English Proficiency test results from these 4 new tests :

1) CELPIP General 2) CAEL 3) PTE Academic 4) TOEFL iBT test

Which English test is easiest for other countries and Canada’s PR card?
In general, most students would agree that the IELTS speaking test is a more comfortable test than the CELPIP speaking test and as a result, they perform better in their tests. The IELTS speaking test is more natural.
